Physiotherapy: Service Provision and Advice

Postural Care and Management

Postural management is the use of specialist equipment and exercises advised by your Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist. The aim of this is to promote good postural symmetry that aids motor development as well as provides comfort and minimises the risk of the development of musculoskeletal postural deformities. This is known to be a 24 hour approach.

As part of a child’s 24 hour postural management programme they may be provided with one or more of the following pieces of equipment:

  • Standing frames
  • Postural seating
  • Sleep systems
  • Walking frames
  • Orthotics/splinting (includes hand splints, foot orthosis and lycra)
  • Wheelchairs (provided by an external company)

Inclusive Sports

For children to lead a healthy lifestyle they need to move as much as possible. It is recommended that children are active for at least 60 minutes per day to help keep their hearts healthy and bones strong- and if they have additional needs, this is just as important.

There are several inclusive sports clubs and activities that are available in the local and surrounding areas of Peterborough. Please see the links below to some of these:
