Training for care homes

Cambridgeshire Training, Education and Development (CAMTED) is a training service provided by the Older People’s Mental Health Service.

CAMTED offer training and development to a number of providers such as GPs, home carers and care homes. We provide comprehensive input on the subject of dementia care, as well as offering training on common mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

We know that the number of people living in care homes with difficulties caused by dementia, depression and anxiety is high. We believe that there are many ways in which residents can be supported to live a life which is meaningful for them, regardless of their diagnosis. In order to achieve this goal, support from caring, compassionate and well trained staff is essential. Care of this kind can help to reduce problems such depression and anxiety.

The training we provide can help staff to deliver person centred care for the benefit of all individual residents. We focus on attitudes, skills and knowledge to ensure that staff members feel well equipped to support their residents.

We recognise the central role family members play in supporting their loved ones. Where possible we provide sessions for groups of family carers within the home. We are keen to further develop this area of our training input and as such would be very happy to speak with family members who have ideas on this subject.
