Staff at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) have been recognised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
The ECT Team (pictured above), who are based at the Cavell Centre, Peterborough, have been praised for meeting high standards after a thorough assessment process.
The accreditation is part of the College’s quality assessment programme and follows a wide-ranging examination of the team’s care of patients and clinical procedures.
Dr Zahoor Syed, Lead Consultant with the ECT Team, (right) said: “We are delighted to be honoured in this way. It is fantastic that the team’s efforts have been recognised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
"The accreditation is valid for three years and following on our previous accreditation in 2009, it means we have maintained our high standards of patient care and safety. This really is a reflection of everyone’s hard work and dedication.”
ECT – or electro-convulsive therapy – is used to treat patients with the most severe form of life-threatening depression and when a rapid response is required, or when other treatments have failed. It is administered under strict guidelines set by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).
